Avon Lake’s Megan Zurkey, who was recently featured on Cleveland's The Voice competition, has just released a new EP titled Dollhouse.
Zurkey said Dollhouse is a mix of singer/songwriter style, pop and country.
“This EP is a collection of new songs that I've been working on since the summer of 2011,” she said. “I wrote all the music and lyrics. The producer/mixer was Jack Dill (a former Avon Lake High School Merple) who lives in LA.
“The guitar was all done by Bill Scott, a member of one of Jack's bands in Los Angeles.”
The busy singer will also be offering a free show on Saturday, Jan. 21 from 9 p/m. – midnight at The Winchester in Lakewood. She will be performing as a duo with guitarist Patrick Scanlon. Admission is free.
Completing the EP was a big step for Zurkey, who appropriately works for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame & Museum as a membership service representative.
“I am so very excited this EP is finally done,” she said. “It has taken longer than I was hoping for, but taught me patience and showed me that good things take time. The music wouldn't be right if we rushed the process. It's like a journal of this chapter of my life that can't be taken away. This is why I love songwriting.”
The EP (extended-play-single) is available on several online stores and in print, including iTunes, eMusic, Amazon mp3, Zune and Rhapsody and more. It can also be streamed from Zurkey’s website, www.meganzurkey.com or at www.reverbnation.com/meganzurkey .

Avon Lake’s Megan Zurkey has penned an original Christmas song and it has reached the Top 200 on an Indie playlist.
The Greatest Gift, written by Zurkey who also co-wrote the music with Patrick Scanlon, was selected for the Top 200 Holiday Playlist on Jango AirPlay.
“It is an Indie playlist and I feel honored to have been chosen,” Zurkey, an Avon Lake High School graduate, said.
Jon Johnson produced the song. Zurkey said the song is a reminder of why Christmas exists.
“I wrote it after being absorbed in ‘holiday’ talk and presents and pressure to find the right gifts,” she said. “Well we can't forget to celebrate the real reason Christmas even exists…it's a birthday.”
Zurkey, 24, was featured earlier this year after being named one of Cleveland’s Sexy Singles and recently featured on Cleveland's The Voice competition, said she wrote the song I 2010 and recorded the song this fall.
“It was written in Christmas 2010 but recorded October 2011 after finding new producer through a friend from that "voice" competition,” she said. “It’s fun how things work out.”
The song can be heard on Zurkey’s website at www.meganzurkey.com and is available for purchase on iTunes, Amazon.com, eMusic and other online stores.
